Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Having a good university degree guarantees people a good job. To what extent do you agree?

 It is a common belief that people who graduated from good university are smart and they can easily find a good job. In addition, many people think they are generally paid well because their background shows they are competent.​ I understand why people prefer a well-educated person when they look for* someone to work with, however, I don’t agree that having a good university always guarantees a good job for people.

 I have seen many people who have great educational background, but are not that good at their jobs. I think such a gap comes from different priorities that a school and a company put.

 Generally, schools evaluate their students by giving them examinations. It means test results are all that school focuses on and a school doesn’t evaluate students’ social relationship, leadership, and collaborative skills. On the other hand, business environment requires people to have a good co-operation skill to draw synergy effects in the company. Business success ​cannot be accomplished by only an individual’s high performance. Each employee’s good performance should be linked into the team’s performance, and it should go to the whole company’s success. During the process, businessmen are continuously exposed to the situation requiring good communication, presentation, and social skills that cannot be learned from school examinations.

 For that reason, companies want to test the candidates’ communication, leadership, and presentation skills which are essential in the business environment. Due to such a different qualification requirement, we can see someone who has really good educational background fails to find a good job or good performance in the business.

 Good educational background can prove that the person studied hard with diligence. In addition, we presume the person is a fast-learner which is preferable in the company. So, having a good university raises the possibility for people to have a great job. However, we cannot conclude that the people with good educational background always have a good job. ​
